Join Matt Hellion on a musical journey through his new album, Lights. Completing the exploration begun in his debut album, Tunnels, Matt dives deep into themes of light and dark and the twilight balance in between. While Tunnels asked how deep into the dark one can go, Lights asks how we come out on the other side, and who we might be after the journey.
What inspired the album “Lights”?
The album “Lights” is inspired by the duality of life, exploring themes of light and dark, and the balance between them. It reflects my journey not only as a musician, but as a human being. I had always planned for Tunnels and Lights to function as a two part story of the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s just taken me a bit longer than anticipated to get there.
How can I listen to your music?
You can listen to my music on various streaming platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. Additionally, my new album “Lights” will be available for purchase on Bandcamp.
Do you perform live shows?
Infrequently. I feel that my music would need a sizeable ensemble to be performed correctly and with integrity. The logistics of getting such a group together have proven challenging. One day I hope to get together a group of likeminded musicians to play not only my songs, but original creations of everyone in the group as well as covers.
What genres do you play?
I primarily play rock and metal music, blending heavy riffs with melodic tunes. That being said, the music on my two albums, as well as other songs I anticipate producing in the future, often cross or blend genre lines. I have released heavy bangers and melodic ballads, both instrumental and with vocals. I write what I feel and think regardless of where those concepts fall on a genre map.
